“The religion of the future will be cosmic religion. It will transcend personal God and avoid dogma and theology.”
What do we have in common, eh?
Here we all are…quite the raggle-taggle assortment of metaphysical pilgrims!
Look who turned up to the picnic…..
Christians, Witches, Chaos Magicians, Zen Masters, Astrologers, Gardeners, Healers, Luciferians, Taoists, New Agers, Old Agers, (Middle Agers ;D), Gnostics, Numerologists, Starseeds, Indigo children, Sacred Geometrists, Poets, Artists, Nihilists, Kabbalists, Prophets, Druids, Activists, Eco-Warriors, Rosicrucians, Freemasons, Atheists, Pantheists, Monotheists, Scientists, Yogis, Psychics, Those who feel themselves to be Spiritually Important and those who would run a mile from such a desire, Those who Believe we are Ascending and those who believe the ascent is metaphorical and internal, those who believe in Aliens, Those who have met Aliens, Those who are Aliens, and those who believe we have not yet encountered extraterrestrial life-forms, Those for whom entheogens are sacred necessities and those who are abstemious, Members of Secret Societies, People who feel antipathetic towards Secret Societies, Anti-Christs, Nobodies, Somebodies, Anybodies, Philosophers, Meditators, Mystics, Dreamers, Alchemists, Those on the Left Hand Path, Those on the Right Hand Path, Those who ask if these Hands exist, Teachers, Watchers, Waiters, Students, Realists, Idealists, Devotees of God, Devotees of the Goddess, Believers in TPTB, Non-believers in TPTB, anarchists, conservatives, Conspiracy Theorists, Skeptics, Men, Women, and ….erm…occasionally, Goats.
Considering the diversity of picnickers, I think we rub along quite nicely. Wars, after all, have been fought over far, far less.
But there are doubtless differences of perspective that may occasionally give us, well, pause..because these differences can, in truth, be quite fundamental.
Let’s not kid ourselves. If you believe there is a malignant ”net” around the planet, that harvests our energies, and your best buddy absolutely does not,
if you believe that it’s all an inner esoteric process and your neighbour snacking on a hot dog beside you at the picnic thinks you are blind to the blisteringly-obvious exoteric truths that he upholds, then…well…occasionally there may be ”confusion”…
We simply have not agreed on the Nature of Consciousness, which, no matter how you look at it, or what sweet spin we put on it, it is a fairly fundamental discrepancy between us all..
We have enough religion to make us hate, but not enough to make us love one another.
Yes. Of course we are all accepting of each other’s beliefs and philosophies. It would be quite ridiculous not to be, because regardless of our individual study, experience or practice none of us can be absolutely certain that we have hold of the One and Only Truth by the slippery tail.
So, if we are wise, we remain open. Open to possibilities, and to change, however challenging that might be. We also remain open to doggedly pursuing our own paths alone…ploughing the lonely furrow….After all, We come alone, and we leave alone, and we must be true to our Selves.
It is the duty of every cultured man or woman to read sympathetically the scriptures of the world. If we are to respect others’ religions as we would have them respect our own, a friendly study of the world’s religions is a sacred duty.
What have we got in common?
At the deepest, most incontrovertible level?
What can we know that will allow us to live in peace together, or even perhaps someday to evolve towards a Sacred Syncretism…..?
Well, first off ..we are all Human. Subject to the laws of Birth and death.
(Oh hang on! Are we? All Human?)
And, (I think at least) we all seek LOVE. To love and to be loved. Without Love (human or Divine) we are shells, hollowed out and pining.
Most of us would like to have a sense of Purpose for our time here on earth. Whether that is to make the dinner for our families, or to usher in a Golden Age.
I would say we also seek to have some measure of Peace of Mind. Inner Calm. Some hope of Serenity on the storm-tossed seas of the world. (Immer Shanti Bleiben ;P)
To be recognised as a member of a community, whether in our 3D families, our partnerships, our work venue, our villages, or indeed among our online pals.
To feel autonomy, security, some measure of control over our destiny.
To feel connection to something greater than one’s own transient self – to know a greater ”Self”.
They’re just a few off the top of me head.
I know the word Religion is not perfect in this context. It suggests Dogma, binding, hierarchy, a will to power, and a will to be led…..none of which appeal to me personally anyway.
Having said that, in this multicultural but ever more interconnected world we will probably have to gravitate eventually towards at least some shared moral ”code” if not a shared religion. The world is too small for us to disagree on the fundamentals.
But …..What are the fundamentals?
And what do we do when we knock up against a friend’s firmly-held Credo that seems inconceivable to us? (Yeah Yeah, I know we hold our tongues and live and let live..but there still remains some element of ……….hesitation…. in the psyche when a friend’s beliefs are utterly, implacably at odds with our own.)
I can’t see at the moment how we could ever truly have a Syncretic Creed…
Or…maybe that’s just me..and I need to cop on.
